چکیده

In 2D-3D Medical Image Registration (MIR), preoperative 3D CT images are registered with intraoperative 2D X-rays images obtained by fluoroscopy or Electronic Portal Imaging Devices (EPID). 2D-3D MIR is established by computing Digitally Reconstructed Radiograph (DRR) images rendered from the volumetric data and is useful in many medical procedures where surgical planning is undertaken using volumetric data prior to treatment, such as in radiation therapy treatment and image guide surgery. The conventional approach used to render DRR images is a computationally expensive process and forms a bottleneck in 2D-3D MIR. This paper evaluates the registration performance of a 2D-3D MIR system which attempts to improve the rendering performance by reducing the number of intersections between the rays cast and internal spaces within the CT volume by using an Octree compression. An Octree compressed CT volume comprises fewer internal spaces, each containing voxels which share similar CT numbers and as such, ray casting through a volume represented as an Octree is potentially computationally simpler. Our work shows that DRR images rendered from an Octree compressed CT volume can be registered with 3 mm accuracy, sufficient for radiotherapy patient setup, even when the volume data is subject to a high degree of compression.

A neural network‐based 2D/3D image registration quality evaluator for pediatric patient setup in external beam radiotherapy

Our purpose was to develop a neural network-based registration quality evaluator (RQE) that can improve the 2D/3D image registration robustness for pediatric patient setup in external beam radiotherapy. Orthogonal daily setup X-ray images of six pediatric patients with brain tumors receiving proton therapy treatments were retrospectively registered with their treatment planning computed tomogra...

Fast Intensity-based 2D-3D Image Registration of Clinical Data Using Light Fields

Registration of a preoperative CT (3D) image to one or more X-ray projection (2D) images, a special case of the pose estimation problem, has been attempted in a variety of ways with varying degrees of success. Recently, there has been a great deal of interest in intensity-based methods. One of the drawbacks to such methods is the need to create digitally reconstructed radiographs (DRRs) at each...

A review of 3D/2D registration methods for image-guided interventions

Registration of pre- and intra-interventional data is one of the key technologies for image-guided radiation therapy, radiosurgery, minimally invasive surgery, endoscopy, and interventional radiology. In this paper, we survey those 3D/2D data registration methods that utilize 3D computer tomography or magnetic resonance images as the pre-interventional data and 2D X-ray projection images as the...

Interactive initialization of 2D/3D rigid registration.

PURPOSE Registration is one of the key technical components in an image-guided navigation system. A large number of 2D/3D registration algorithms have been previously proposed, but have not been able to transition into clinical practice. The authors identify the primary reason for the lack of adoption with the prerequisite for a sufficiently accurate initial transformation, mean target registra...
